The European Gamechangers is a 2025 initiative exploring how creativity can strengthen democracy, build trust, and foster civic engagement. It aims to equip cultural professionals with the skills and knowledge to encourage inclusive, fact-based dialogue and active citizenship. Through workshops, exchanges, and public events, the project highlights the role of the arts in countering polarization, promoting media literacy, and nurturing democratic values. The project consisted of two activities: a workshop in February and a conference in October.

The later was held from the 13 to 15 October, titled “Reimagining Europe’s Future – Cultural Engagement for a Democratic Europe”. It gathered artists, educators, cultural workers, policymakers, and researchers from across Europe to examine the role of culture in an age of geopolitical tension and social fragmentation. It was inspired by the Budapest Cultural Forum of 1985 and the Helsinki Process. The conference aimed to shape a renewed vision for a cultural forum for Europe—one that grows from grassroots initiatives, supports transnational collaboration, and recognizes the responsibility of artists as active citizens.

The program unfolded through several interconnected activities. “Art, Memory, and Open European Spaces,” took place in Berlin in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, SKICA Berlin and the European Academy of Berlin. Presided by Ambassador Dr. Ana Polak Petričm, it examined how art and culture can keep spaces of exchange open even when physical or mental borders harden and reflected on Europe’s growing need for empathy, memory, and collaboration.
