In the context of Global Forum for Women Film Organizations at Berlinale 2023, the Canadian Embassy hosted women filmmakers from Iran, Afghanistan & Ukraine to talk about solidarity, resistance, and fight.

As part of the Berlinale 2023, the Global Forum for Women Film Organizations, the Canadian Embassy in Berlin hosted a panel discussion featuring female filmmakers from Afghanistan, Iran, and Ukraine on February 17th. The event highlighted the important role of female voices in times of crisis and in authoritarian regimes and shone a light on the work of women filmmakers who operate in war zones and other areas of danger and conflict currently shaking the world.

The Berlinale is an annual international film festival held in Berlin, Germany, that brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts from around the world. In addition to showcasing a wide variety of films, the festival also hosts events, discussions, and forums on topics related to film and the industry.

The panel discussion at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin held on February 17th was an important opportunity to amplify the voices of female filmmakers who are often marginalized and underrepresented in the film industry, particularly in war zones and conflict areas. The event was funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Embassy of Canada to Germany and supported by Women in Film and Television International, European Women's Audiovisual Network, Women and Hollywood, Sister Working in Film and Television South Africa, ScreenCraft Works, and Asociación de Mujeres Cineastas y de Medios Audiovisuales (CIMA).

During the panel discussion, the female filmmakers shared their experiences and insights into the challenges they face as women working in the film industry, particularly in areas of conflict and authoritarian regimes. They discussed the importance of women's empowerment, solidarity, and the need for female voices to be heard and represented in all aspects of society.

The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of standing together and fighting to empower all women around the world. Only by amplifying the voices of female filmmakers and supporting their work, will be possible to create a more just and equitable society for all.

The Canadian Embassy's initiative to host the panel discussion during Berlinale 2023 highlights the crucial role that film, and media can play in amplifying women's voices, particularly those who are working in dangerous and difficult situations. It is a testament to the power of solidarity and the need to support women filmmakers and their work.

Ultimately, the event serves as an important reminder of the ongoing struggle for women's rights and gender equality, and the need for continued action and advocacy to empower women around the world.
