Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Germany Showcases K-Pop World Festival
Korean pop culture inspires creativity and international exchange among young performers
October 07th, 2025In June 2025, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Germany, in cooperation with the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Berlin, hosted the Berlin preliminary round of the K-Pop World Festival — a global celebration of Korean culture that fosters creativity and international exchange among young people. The event took place on June 29 at the Kesselhaus in Berlin’s Kulturbrauerei, attracting hundreds of participants and fans eager to share their passion for K-pop and Korean contemporary culture.
Established in 2011 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), the K-Pop World Festival is held annually in more than 70 countries. It provides an opportunity for international performers to reinterpret Korean pop songs and choreography, with the best local entries sent to Korea for the final competition in Changwon. The initiative has become one of the most visible expressions of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), reflecting how popular culture can serve as a bridge between nations through shared creativity and enthusiasm.
In Berlin, contestants competed in both dance and vocal categories, showcasing impressive interpretations of popular K-pop hits. The event also featured a “lucky lottery” for participants and audience members, adding a festive and inclusive atmosphere to the competition. By encouraging young artists from Germany and beyond to engage with Korean music and performance styles, the Embassy and the Korean Cultural Center are promoting cultural understanding and friendship through artistic experience rather than formal diplomacy.
As the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Germany continues to support initiatives that highlight Korea’s cultural vitality, events such as the K-Pop World Festival demonstrate how culture can unite people through shared passion and creativity. From Berlin’s vibrant stage to the global final in Korea, this initiative illustrates how popular culture can transcend borders, inviting new generations to experience and celebrate the diversity and energy of contemporary Korea.
