Kazakh Embassy in Austria took part in Mauthausen anniversary wreath-laying ceremony
February 17th, 2026The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria participated in a wreath-laying ceremony marking the anniversary of the historic escape of Soviet prisoners of war from the “death block” of the Mauthausen concentration camp, one of the tragic symbols of the Nazi extermination system.
The Embassy’s participation in the commemorative events reflected deep respect and reverence for the memory of the heroes from Kazakhstan who, under the harsh conditions of Nazi camps, demonstrated courage, resilience, and an unyielding spirit in the fight against fascism.
On this occasion, a wreath was laid at the Kazakh memorial plaque located within the Mauthausen memorial complex, which honours the victims from Kazakhstan who perished in Nazi concentration camps. Their sacrifice remains an integral part of the historical memory of the people of Kazakhstan.
The memorial plaque stands as a symbol of the contribution of the people of Kazakhstan to the shared struggle for freedom and peace, and underscores the importance of preserving historical remembrance for future generations.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to commemorating the victims and promoting respect for historical memory, in line with international efforts to honour those who suffered during the Second World War.
