A Captivating Look into Berlin's Transformation Through the Lens of Ostkreuz Photographers
January 24th, 2025The highly anticipated exhibition "Dream On - Berlin, the 90s" at C/O Berlin draws to a close today, leaving visitors with a deep sense of nostalgia and insight into a pivotal decade for the German capital. Held at the iconic America House in Charlottenburg, the exhibition showcased over 200 captivating works by members of the renowned Ostkreuz photo agency. The images offer an intimate and powerful portrayal of Berlin in the 1990s, a time of hope, uncertainty, and profound transformation following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Meltzer, accompanied by Maurice Weiss, a member of the Ostkreuz leadership, visited the exhibition and explored the vast collection. The works on display not only depict the physical changes of the city, such as the dismantling of the Wall and the rise of a united Germany, but also capture the personal stories and cultural shifts that defined the era. Each photograph reveals a Berlin that was in the process of reinventing itself, from vibrant street scenes to quiet moments of reflection, underscoring the optimism and challenges of reunification.
C/O Berlin’s Chairman of the Board, Stefan Erfurt, extended his gratitude to all those involved in the exhibition’s success. Through the lens of Ostkreuz’s talented photographers, "Dream On" has provided a powerful visual narrative of a city in transition—one that continues to resonate with those who lived through the 1990s and those who experience Berlin today. As the exhibition closes, it leaves behind a lasting impression of a time when dreams of a new Berlin were beginning to take shape.
