The Embassy of the Dominican Republic to the United Kingdom marked International Women’s Day by hosting a Meeting of Dominican Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals in London, bringing together members of the Dominican diaspora to celebrate leadership and foster community engagement. The event gathered approximately 80 participants, including entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders, reflecting the growing role of diaspora networks in advancing national development and international visibility.

In her opening remarks, Rosa Hernández de Grullón, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the United Kingdom, emphasized the importance of creating platforms that highlight the talent, entrepreneurial capacity, and leadership of Dominican women abroad. She underscored the significant contribution of the diaspora to the Dominican Republic’s economic growth and global profile, situating the event within broader efforts to strengthen bilateral and transnational ties through people-centered diplomacy.

The programme featured a keynote address titled “Building Credibility and Leadership with the Diaspora,” delivered by Manuel A. Grullón Hernández. His presentation explored themes of professional credibility, leadership development, and the responsibility of diaspora communities to contribute meaningfully to their countries of origin. The address prompted an engaging exchange of ideas among participants, highlighting shared experiences and aspirations within the Dominican community in the United Kingdom.

Beyond its immediate focus, the event exemplified cultural diplomacy by leveraging diaspora engagement to build bridges between nations. By empowering women and fostering professional networks, such initiatives contribute to social inclusion, economic participation, and soft power projection. They also reinforce the Dominican Republic’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive development, aligning with broader international frameworks on women’s empowerment and sustainable development.

In conclusion, the gathering demonstrated the strategic value of diaspora-driven initiatives in strengthening national identity and international partnerships. By investing in the leadership potential of Dominican women abroad, the Embassy is supporting long-term objectives of community cohesion, economic collaboration, and enhanced bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom.
