Cultural Diplomacy in Motion: Europe Comes Alive in Berlin
Engaging citizens through interactive dialogue and shared European identity
August 15th, 2025In May and June 2025, Berlin’s ERLEBNIS EUROPA exhibition at the European House transformed into a vibrant hub where cultural diplomacy took center stage—bringing Europe closer to citizens through immersive, interactive experiences.
Organized by the Representation of the European Commission and the European Parliament’s liaison office in Germany, the event unfolded over three weekends (May 9–11, May 30–31, and June 7–8). It invited visitors into a tactile journey through European politics and identity, with free access, multi-language support, and a setting right at the heart of Berlin.
Participants were invited to test their EU knowledge in quizzes, engage in opinion polls, and join in discussions addressing the future of the European Union and its policies—such as the new Multiannual Financial Framework. These activities fostered cultural diplomacy by encouraging open dialogue and collective participation among diverse audiences.
A special highlight on Europe Day (May 9) was the enchanting soap bubble show—a whimsical visual display that invited families, young adults, and seasoned Europeans alike to celebrate together and spark curiosity about their shared European heritage. The 360° cinema and role-playing simulations offered visitors immersive glimpses into EU parliamentary life, further breaking down complex political processes into accessible, engaging experiences.
By turning institutional outreach into an interactive cultural immersion, ERLEBNIS EUROPA exemplifies the power of cultural diplomacy. It not only educates but also invites citizens to explore, question, and contribute—crafting a more inclusive, understood, and connected Europe through hands-on, human-centered engagement.
