Commemorating 65 Years of Independence and 35 Years of Liberation of the State of Kuwait
Celebrating Kuwait’s National Milestones in Berlin
February 25th, 2026On 9 February 2026, the ICD Academy attended a commemorative evening at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Berlin to mark two significant national milestones of the State of Kuwait: the 65th anniversary of its independence and the 35th anniversary of its liberation.
The event was held in a dignified and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the importance of these anniversaries for Kuwait and their resonance within the international diplomatic community in Germany.
The gathering brought together a distinguished group of diplomatic representatives, underscoring the strong spirit of international cooperation and mutual respect. Particular appreciation needs to be extended to H.E. Reem Mohammad Alkhaled, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Federal Republic of Germany. The event was further honoured by the attendance of several ambassadors accredited to Germany, including Amb. Ahmed Waheeb Maaz Ahmed Alattar, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Germany; Amb. Adia Sakiqi-Vandecasteele, Ambassador of Albania to Germany; Amb. Wacef Chiha, Ambassador of Tunisia to Germany; Amb. Adriana-Loreta Stănescu, Ambassador of Romania to Germany; Gordan Bakota, Ambassador of Croatia to Germany; and Youmna Osman, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Egypt in Berlin.
Germany and Kuwait enjoy a longstanding and close diplomatic relationship characterized by regular political dialogue and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Germany is highly regarded in Kuwait as a major political and economic force within Europe and as a country that has traditionally maintained constructive and respectful relations with the Arab world. This mutual esteem is reflected in the frequency of high-level exchanges between the two countries, which have contributed to deepening bilateral understanding and collaboration. In recent years, bilateral engagement has been further strengthened through reciprocal official visits. In November 2022, German Minister of State Tobias Lindner travelled to Kuwait to advance political dialogue and build upon existing bilateral relations, while in the same year Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister paid an official visit to Berlin. These exchanges culminated in 2024, when Germany and Kuwait commemorated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Under the leadership of H.E. Reem Mohammad Alkhaled, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Berlin continues to play a central role in advancing bilateral relations and promoting mutual understanding between the two nations. The commemorative evening thus stood as both a celebration of Kuwait’s resilience and achievements, and a reaffirmation of the enduring and constructive partnership between Kuwait, Germany, and the wider diplomatic community.
