On December 7, 2024, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Germany issued a statement expressing strong dissatisfaction and resolute protests regarding recent actions and statements by Germany concerning Taiwan. The remarks came after the hosting of the “Berlin Taiwan Conference,” which included German and Taiwanese politicians, despite repeated objections from China. A senior official from the German Foreign Office was accused of making arbitrary claims on China’s sovereignty, described by the Embassy as blatant interference in China's internal affairs.

The statement reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, a fact supported by international agreements such as the 1943 Cairo Declaration and the 1945 Potsdam Declaration. These documents affirm China's sovereignty over Taiwan. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the Central People’s Government has been recognized as the sole legitimate authority representing all of China. The Embassy emphasized that the One-China Principle is a universally recognized norm of international relations and a cornerstone of China-Germany relations.

The Embassy urged Germany to refrain from any official contacts with Taiwan and to avoid supporting “Taiwan independence” forces. The spokesperson highlighted that the Taiwan issue is central to China's core interests and represents a red line in bilateral relations. The statement concluded by calling on Germany to uphold the One-China Principle to preserve the stability and health of China-Germany relations. This appeal reflects China’s broader diplomatic effort to assert its position on Taiwan in the face of international engagements that it perceives as undermining its sovereignty.
