Chinese Embassy Celebrates 55 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Austria

The evening centered on the presentation of a new special edition of the magazine dedicated to China, attracting more than a hundred prominent figures from Austrian politics, business, and culture. Held at the Chinese Embassy, the ceremony served as a powerful platform for cultural diplomacy and the strengthening of bilateral ties.
The event was officially opened by H.E. Qi Mei, the Chinese Ambassador to Austria, and Gertrud Tauchhammer, the publisher of Diplomatic Society. During her address, Ambassador Qi Mei emphasized the historical depth of the relationship, which has flourished since its formal establishment in 1971. She noted that the special edition provides a comprehensive retrospective of their shared achievements while outlining a vision for future cooperation in an increasingly interconnected global landscape.
The guest list included several high-ranking dignitaries, most notably the former Austrian President Dr. Heinz Fischer. Other key speakers included Mag. Maximilian Hennig, the Head of the Protocol Department at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the ceremony was moderated by former Ambassador Dr. Klaus Wölfer. These contributions underscored the mutual respect and high value both nations place on their diplomatic, economic, and academic exchanges.
In a demonstration of the cultural bonds between the two nations, the evening featured a musical performance by violinist Xu Jiaqi from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The celebration concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, marking over five decades of friendship. This collaboration between the Embassy and the press highlights the essential role of media in documenting and promoting the milestones of international relations.
