Roberto Ampuero Espinoza

Roberto Ampuero is a graduate of the Wilhelm Pieck Youth College (German Democratic Republic) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Literature from the University of Havana (Cuba), a Master of Arts and PhD from the University of Iowa, and postgraduate studies in Literature, Economics and Politics from the University of Humboldt in Berlin.

He has been a Fellow of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and is currently a Senior Fellow of Fundación para el Progreso (FPP). Furthermore, he is a visiting Professor at Finis Terrae University, director of the Fundación Avanza Chile and columnist for El Mercurio and El Libero. He was also a columnist for the New York Times Syndicate, El Mercurio de Valparaiso and La Tercera. He is a Fellow of the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in Italy and was director of the Development and Cooperation magazine of the German Foundation for International Development in Bonn (Germany).

During the first administration of President Sebastián Piñera, he was Chile's ambassador to Mexico and subsequently served as Minsiter of the National Council for Culture and the Arts.

Ampuero is the author of more than fifteen novels, memoirs and books on political affairs. His autobiographical texts include "Nuestros años verde olivo" and "Detrás del muro"; his novels "Los Amantes de Estocolmo", "Pasiones griegas", "La otra mujer", "El último tango de Salvador Allende" and the saga of detective Cayetano Brulé. His works have been published in Latin America and Spain, and translated into German, French, English, Italian, Chinese, among others. In Chile, they have more than 40 editions. He is also co-author of Dialogos de Conversos I and II, alongside writer and scholar Mauricio Rojas.

He is married to Ana Lucrecia Rivera Schwarz and they are parents to four children.
