Children of The Moon: Circus Mond in Berlin’s Arts Scene
Performances, theatre, dance and concerts under one tent
March 25th, 2026In Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, one of the most vibrant districts in the German capital, a modest circus tent has become a steady point of reference for the city’s independent arts scene. Circus Mond brings together circus, theatre, dance and live music, creating a space where performance shifts constantly and audiences are drawn into a more informal, immersive setting.
According to the collective, Circus Mond emerged in 2018 from the activities of Kinder des Mondes (Children of the Moon), an international group of artists active in Berlin’s arts scene. Before settling into a permanent venue, the group operated across the city’s underground scene, temporarily transforming empty buildings, open spaces and unused sites into stages. That same experimental approach continues to shape Circus Mond today.
The programme reflects this fluid identity. Each month combines in-house productions with guest performances, with no fixed format or repetition. Shows range from contemporary circus and cabaret to hybrid forms that move between theatre, movement and live music. The constant rotation of artists and ideas ensures that each performance develops its own character.
More than a venue, Circus Mond functions as an open platform. Performers are invited to test new work, while audiences engage with performances in a setting that feels closer to a shared space than a traditional stage. The atmosphere is deliberately informal, encouraging interaction and experimentation rather than distance.
Circus Mond continues to reflect a broader strand of Berlin’s cultural life, a life rooted in collaboration, adaptability and the reuse of space. By maintaining a balance between structure and spontaneity, it offers a setting where performance is not fixed, but continuously reshaped by those who take part.
