Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the German Romantic Painter

To mark the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich's birth (1774–1840), the Alte Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, in cooperation with the Kupferstichkabinett, is hosting a comprehensive exhibition titled Caspar David Friedrich: Infinite Landscapes.

This exhibition celebrates the most prominent painter of the German Romantic movement, whose initial renown was significantly fostered by acquisitions and public exhibitions in Berlin. The Nationalgalerie, housing one of the world’s largest collections of Friedrich’s paintings, makes this event particularly significant.

Running from April 19 to August 4, 2024, at the Alte Nationalgalerie on Museum Island, Berlin, this exhibition is part of a series also featuring the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The series honours Friedrich's artistic legacy and his profound influence on the German Romantic movement.

General Admission: €16.00, with a reduced price of €8.00 for eligible visitors.

Free Admission: Visitors up to the age of 18, recipients of transfer benefits, holders of the Museum Island Area Card, the Welcome Card Museum Island, CLASSIC PLUS annual pass holders, ICOM members, and Friends of the Museum Association members enjoy free entry.

Tickets can be purchased online via the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin online shop or at the on-site ticket office. Daily ticket contingents are available for spontaneous visitors, though waiting times may be expected.
