The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Austria, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Cultural Institute Haus Wittgenstein, organized a grand gala concert on May 24, 2026, at the Wiener Konzerthaus.

Held on the Day of Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature, this high-profile event served as a major initiative of public diplomacy. The evening successfully brought together representatives of the Austrian government, members of the international diplomatic corps, and a large audience from the Bulgarian diaspora in Vienna.

The concert featured a masterful performance by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the renowned conductor Nayden Todorov. The musical program bridged Bulgarian and European classical traditions, featuring the brilliant young violinist Lora Markova, who performed Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1. The orchestra also captivated the Viennese public with a rendition of the festive overture "Vardar" by the classic Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov, alongside Johannes Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, celebrating shared continental musical links.

In his official address, the Bulgarian Ambassador highlighted the profound civilizational impact of the Cyrillic alphabet and the role of cultural diplomacy in fostering unity and mutual respect within Europe. The event underscored Bulgaria's active presence in the musical capital of the world and served as an institutional platform to promote cultural exchange. The successful evening concluded with a standing ovation, demonstrating how symphonic collaboration and bilateral heritage initiatives continue to enrich the vibrant cultural landscape of Vienna.
