“The Embassy of Ireland in Berlin will host a three-day literary festival to celebrate the Irish feast-day of St. Brigid - the patron saint of creativity, and arguably, one of Ireland’s most celebrated feminists. Brigid’s Day has been celebrated for many years, but 2023 marks the first year that it will be a national holiday in Ireland, demonstrating the importance placed on recognising the contribution of women in Irish society.

Brigidsfest began in 2019 as ‘Brigid Meets Berlin’, bringing to Berlin a focus on the stellar talents of female Irish writers, and, having resided online for the past two years, will return to the Embassy premises in full form from the 1st – 3rd of February with authors Wendy Erskine, Hilary Fannin, Elaine Feeney, Olivia Fitzsimons, Roisin Kiberd, Audrey Magee and Louise Nealon.

The previous (online) edition of Brigidsfest gave a brief introduction to these seven writers, whose books had not yet been translated to German. With commissioned translations of excerpt and a brief interview, new audiences in Germany were given a flavour of these exciting talents. This year, these audiences can delve deeper into the ideas and approaches of these brilliant authors with panel discussions, moderated by DW journalists and presenters Kate Ferguson and Jennifer Collins, and readings from the artists themselves.”
