On June 25, the Charité University Hospital in Berlin hosted the international symposium titled “Collaborating for Global Health: Shared Challenges and Responsibilities. A Transatlantic Political Dialogue between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean,” which has since sparked significant reflections on global health cooperation.

Ambassador Mauricio Arturo Bueso Chinchilla of Honduras also participated in the symposium, delivering one of the opening addresses. His speech emphasized the importance of transatlantic collaboration in addressing global health issues. Other notable speakers included Felix Drexler from GLACIER (DAAD Worldwide), Martin Bergfelder from the German Federal Foreign Office, Miriam Brewka Pino from the European External Action Service, and Ximena Adriana Bonilla, director of the EU-LAC Foundation.

The symposium aimed to foster a deeper understanding of how Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean can develop stronger, more reliable structures and mechanisms for cooperation. This initiative is crucial for enabling these regions to take coordinated actions in preparation for and response to current and future health challenges.

The EU-LAC Foundation acknowledged the contributions of the event’s co-organizers, including ISGlobal, the GIGA Institute and the DAAD. These organizations were instrumental in assembling a diverse group of experts and perspectives, facilitating a productive dialogue and exchange of ideas during the symposium.

The symposium concluded with a strong call to action for continued collaboration and dialogue between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. The participants agreed that by learning from the past and leveraging each region’s strengths, they could create a more resilient and equitable global health landscape.
