The US Embassy recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of law students from Deutsch-Amerikanische Juristen-Vereinigung e.V. (DAJV e.V.) for an engaging and insightful discussion. This event offered students a unique opportunity to connect with seasoned diplomats and learn about their career paths, the nuances of diplomatic work, and the steps to build a successful international career. While the event has already taken place, its significance lies in fostering cross-cultural understanding and providing a platform for dialogue and learning among future professionals.

The conversation kicked off with an introduction to the personal career paths of the attending diplomats, providing attendees with a first-hand view of their journeys into the field of diplomacy. Diplomats Peter Lee, Nooshin Soltani, and Erin Markley shared their personal experiences and offered a fascinating behind-the-scenes perspective on diplomatic responsibilities. Following this, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions, diving into the complexities of diplomatic work and exploring the role of effective communication, negotiation, and collaboration in international relations. This interactive session emphasized the importance of real-world insights when considering future careers.

The event concluded with valuable advice for young professionals eager to enter the world of law, diplomacy, or international relations. The speakers shared practical guidance and inspired attendees to consider the diverse career paths that are possible within diplomacy and international legal frameworks. Organized by embassy interns Sarah Kuehberger and Philipp Hein in collaboration with Yves Heuser, a lawyer at SKW Schwarz, the event proved to be both educational and motivational. Perhaps the participants in the room are on the path to becoming future interns, diplomats, or international lawyers themselves
