On 3rd of July, at the premises of the Indian embassy was screened the Bollywood Film Bareilly Ki Barfi, directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma.

The movie, set in the small-town of Bareilly, portrays the life of Bitti, a free-spirited young girl who smokes, drinks, eats non vegan, watches English movies, does break dance and refuses to be pressured by her parents into marriage. Bareilly Ki Barfi movie provides an inside view in the life of many Indian girls like Bitti who are pressured to behave and find a good husband. Even if the movie is a romantic comedy, it approaches in a subtle way the women’s role in the Indian society.

Movies provide a greater understanding of the time, places and the lifestyle of its characters. One of the main missions of the Indian embassy is to promote Indian people and culture through various cultural activities and what other better method than doing it through movies?
