Berlin Shines is a celebration in Berlin, which illuminates many museums and has transformed the lesser-known buildings over the city into sights of interest. It is a way of showing the cultural buildings through the beauty of different shining colures. It will be taking place from October 2nd until the 18th.

Many international artists have the opportunity to present their works in the different museums during this time. There will be many glowing light projections, 3D video mappings and light installations, including music events and guided tours, with the name of “Light Seeing”. Furthermore, there will also be photography workshops and charity events.  The illuminated buildings will be mainly in the city centre such as Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral, the Funkturm, the Oberbaumbrücke and the Siegessäule. Almost 500 monuments and museums will become colored every day from 19:00 pm until midnight.

“Berlin Shines” was created by some of the initiators of the Festival of Lights. While the Festival of Lights illuminates some of the most famous monuments, Berlin Shines also focuses on less prominent buildings all over the city; the ones that are not usually shown on travel guides, such as train stations, shopping malls and public squares. Besides this year is proclaimed by UNESCO as the International Year of Light, which main topic is the awareness of light’s importance not only in our daily life but also in science, health, energy and of course education and culture.

Visitors can go to the festival by bus, boat, and on foot, passing through the quarters of Mitte, Tiergarten, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Steglitz and enjoying the event of being a part of a world full of lights.
