On May 9th and 10th, 2025, the Hertie School in Berlin hosted the Latam Conference 2025, an event organized by the Latin American Club of the Hertie School. The two-day conference brought together academics, diplomats, policymakers, and students from across Latin America, Germany, and other countries to discuss key challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, while highlighting the growing ties between Latin America and Germany.

The conference featured panel discussions on topics such as digital governance, climate change, Indigenous perspectives, gender equality, security, sustainable development, and human rights. Notable sessions included “Global Trends and the Future of Latin America,” “Digital Governance in Latin America,” and “Gender Perspectives in Latin America.”

Speakers emphasized the importance of international cooperation to address pressing issues. One panelist highlighted that “climate change is a must for surveillance of species, and we need cooperation towards that,” underscoring the need for transnational environmental efforts. Another noted that “owning a smartphone is insufficient if it is not connected to a broader digitalization process,” pointing to the critical role of infrastructure and policy in effective digital governance.

The event attracted over 200 participants representing more than 25 nationalities, including diplomatic representatives from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Peru. This diverse participation reflected the international scope and relevance of the conference.

Latam Conference 2025 underscored Berlin’s role as a key hub for academic diplomacy and international dialogue on Latin America. The event demonstrated how academic exchange complements cultural and political diplomacy, fostering sustainable development and democratic resilience through knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

The conference concluded with a call for continued partnerships between Latin America and Germany to address shared challenges and promote inclusive growth.
