Berlin Comic Scholarship 2025: Where Comics and Cultural Diplomacy Converge
Art across borders, narratives beyond walls
August 07th, 2025In summer 2025, Berlin embarks on a journey of cultural diplomacy through comics. The winners of the Berlin Comic Scholarship will bring their creative visions to life in a compelling exhibition that bridges local art with global exchange.
From July 5, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the Museum for Communication Berlin will host an exhibition showcasing the works of the Berlin Comic Scholarship recipients. Organized in collaboration with the German Comic Association, the display highlights both current awardees and past Paris-based scholarship participants, offering a vibrant snapshot of Berlin’s diverse comic art scene.
This year, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion granted three eight‑month working scholarships to Matías Boettner, Katia Fouquet, and Paula Kempker, and a six‑month residency in Paris to Clayton Junior. The exhibition also honors previous Paris scholarship holders, providing continuity and context to this cultural dialogue.
A dedicated reading corner invites visitors to engage directly with graphic novels and comic books born of cultural exchange. This immersive space encourages reflection on how comics transcend language and borders, fostering empathy and understanding through storytelling and visual art.
By weaving together Berlin’s thriving comic culture with international cultural exchange, the Berlin Comic Scholarship 2025 exhibition becomes more than an art showcase—it’s a gesture of cultural diplomacy. As visitors explore these works, they’re invited to witness how creative collaboration and narrative art can connect communities, provoke dialogue, and celebrate diversity.
