The exhibition held at the Museum of Photography is sponsored by the Society for German-Chinese Cultural Exchange (GeKA e.V.) and by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (SMB) and is open to visitors from the 28th of June to the 25th of August 2019.

The “Berlin Beijing Visual Exchange” exhibition, taking place at the Museum of Photography in Berlin, has been organised in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the city twinning between the two cities. Such purpose has been fulfilled through the exposition of young artists from both cities, in order to give visitors different perspectives of both Berlin and Beijing.

The artists exhibited have all studied in famous artistic institutions, as for instance the Weißensee Kunsthochschule berlin, the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) and the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA). One of the most prominent artists shown at the exhibition is He Xiangyu, who works in both cities and who has been exposing his works at the Chinese Pavilion of the Venice Biennale. Additionally, the works of photographer Ye Funa, known for the merging of artistic and contemporary artistic traditions and for the exploration of gender and sexual identity, have also been exposed at the visual exchange, thus illustrating a variety of themes, going beyond mere illustrations of the cities.

Overall, the exhibition is an excellent occasion to profit from a cultural exchange here in Berlin, as it offers visitors the chance to explore both Chinese and German contemporary art. Cost of admission is 10 euros for full and 5 euros for reduced tickets.
