History

The Federal Republic of Germany has maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations with Benin since 1960. Bilateral relations have been good since the end of Benin’s dictatorship in 1990.

Benin is a partner country of German development cooperation, owing mainly to the country’s recent political development into a liberal democracy. In recent years, there have been a number of high-level visits between the two states.
