In September 2025, the European Union Delegation to the Sultanate of Oman, together with the EU Member State Embassies in Muscat, proudly launched the second edition of the EU Film Festival in Muscat. The festival, taking place from 21 to 28 September at Cinepolis in Avenue Mall, features a remarkable line-up of 22 films from nine participating European countries.

The official press conference, hosted on 14 August at the German Embassy in Muscat, underscored the important role of Germany and Austria in shaping this year’s edition. German Ambassador Dirk Lölke welcomed representatives from all participating embassies, setting the tone for an event that celebrated cultural diplomacy and cross-cultural understanding.

With both the German and Austrian Embassies playing leading roles, the festival highlighted Europe’s commitment to building bridges through film. This year’s program marked a significant expansion from the inaugural edition in 2024, which showcased 15 films.

The increased participation not only demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for European cinema in Oman but also reaffirmed the embassies’ dedication to promoting cultural dialogue. Audiences can enjoy a wide selection of films representing Austria, Cyprus, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Romania.

The EU Film Festival in Muscat once again positioned the German and Austrian Embassies as key actors in advancing cultural diplomacy in Oman. Both embassies reinforced their role as dynamic partners in fostering mutual understanding between Europe and the Gulf region.
