On October 8th, Ambassador Ian Biggs and Dr. Christine Biggs OAM brought a slice of Australia to Vienna with a delightful Australian Evening at Augarten. Guests were treated to an immersive celebration of Australian culture, flavors, and artistry, set against the charming backdrop of the Augarten greenhouse.

The event offered a unique blend of culinary tradition and native heritage, showcasing iconic Australian dishes such as Democracy Sausages, kangaroo meat, lamingtons, pavlovas, and the quintessential Vegemite. Guests also sampled indigenous ingredients like wattleseed, lemon myrtle, and pepperberry, expertly integrated into the menu. To accompany the feast, premium Australian beverages—including craft beers, award-winning gins, vodka, whisky, and fine wines—were served, highlighting Australia’s rich and innovative drink culture.

The ambiance was further elevated with stunning displays of Australian flora, curated by the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien. A special highlight was the presentation of botanical illustrations by Ferdinand L. Bauer, renowned for his work during Captain Matthew Flinders' historic circumnavigation of Australia.

Attendees were captivated by a dynamic lineup of entertainment, including live music and a spectacular fire performance by The Freestyle Orchestra, alongside the Old Masters exhibition by the National Museum of Australia.
