Australian Embassy in Berlin Marks Milestones in Australia–Germany Relations
Reception highlights diplomacy, trade ties, and cultural exchange
May 27th, 2026The Embassy of Australia in Berlin hosted a reception attended by more than 150 guests, marking key milestones in Australia–Germany relations and broader Australia–European Union cooperation. The event highlighted the 25th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the renovated Embassy building in Berlin, as well as preparations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Germany in 2027. Developments in Australia–EU relations, including progress on a free trade agreement, were also referenced as part of the evening’s programme.
Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office, delivered welcoming remarks during the evening, which brought together representatives from diplomatic missions, government institutions, business organisations, and cultural partners.
Guests were offered a selection of Australian food and beverages, including Wagyu beef, Australian wines, spirits, and traditional products associated with Australian cuisine. The Embassy said the reception was intended to highlight both cultural connections and growing economic cooperation between Australia and Germany.
The event was supported by Australian government agencies, trade and investment organisations, and state-level partners involved in international cooperation initiatives. Sponsors from the food, wine, and healthcare sectors also contributed to the programme.
The reception formed part of broader efforts to strengthen long-standing diplomatic ties between Australia and Germany ahead of the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2027.
