The inaugural AsiaBerlin Art Festival (ABAF) will transform MaHalla Berlin into a vibrant stage for Asian-European cultural exchange, marking a new milestone in the dialogue between Asia and Europe. Conceived as an immersive celebration of contemporary art, ABAF breaks away from traditional exhibition formats by combining a continuously running showcase of installations with dedicated performance days for each participating country. With China, Japan, Korea, and India presenting exclusive contributions, the festival reimagines how audiences engage with Asian creativity, blending technology, performance, and visual culture into a shared experience that is both innovative and accessible.

Behind the festival stands Asia Berlin Forum e.V., the organization driving the Berlin Senate’s flagship initiative AsiaBerlin. Since 2000, the Forum has acted as a cornerstone of innovation diplomacy, connecting Berlin’s thriving startup ecosystem with Asia’s dynamic markets while fostering partnerships that extend far beyond business. Its mission emphasizes three goals: supporting Asian companies entering Europe, providing Berlin founders with pathways to Asian markets, and strengthening the presence of Asian entrepreneurs within Berlin’s ecosystem. In launching ABAF, Asia Berlin Forum demonstrates how cultural dialogue complements economic and technological exchange, placing art at the center of a broader vision of cross-continental collaboration.

The AsiaBerlin Art Festival is made possible through the active participation of Asian embassies in Berlin, including those of Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines, alongside government agencies such as Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency and the Port City Colombo Economic Commission. These partnerships are reinforced by leading innovation hubs across Asia and Europe and global corporations such as Siemens, Mitsubishi Electric, and SAP, all of which highlight the festival’s role in connecting art, technology, and diplomacy.

With its focus on immersive, visually striking, and social media-friendly experiences, ABAF is not only an art festival but also a powerful instrument of cultural diplomacy. By creating new ways for audiences to engage with contemporary Asian creativity in the heart of Berlin, it underscores the city’s role as a bridge between continents. As AsiaBerlin Art Festival opens its doors in 2026, it promises to become a flagship platform where culture, innovation, and diplomacy converge to shape the future of international exchange.
