The Ambassador
H.E. Mrs. Hasmik Tolmajian
H.E. Ms. Hasmik Tolmajian has served as the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva since October 2024, presenting her credentials on 26 November 2024. Prior to her appointment, she served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to France (2018–2024) and concurrently as Ambassador to Monaco (2020–2024). From 2014 to 2018, she served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Armenia in Switzerland. Earlier positions included Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia (2008–2014), work in the Ministry’s Department for Europe (2004–2008), service at the Embassy of Armenia to France (2000–2004), and within the Ministry’s Commonwealth of Independent States Department (1995–1996).
Ms. Tolmajian holds degrees from the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) (1997–1999), Panthéon-Assas University, Paris (1996–1997), and Yerevan State University, Department of International Relations (1991–1996). Throughout her diplomatic career, she has received several distinctions, including the Medal of Honor of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia (2014), the French National Order of Merit (2016), the Grand Vermeil Medal of the City of Paris (2023), and the Medal of the National Defence of the French Republic (2024).
History
Armenia became a member of the United Nations on 2 March 1992, following the restoration of its independence in 1991. Since joining the UN, Armenia has actively participated in multilateral diplomacy, engaging on issues including international peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, humanitarian affairs, and the protection of cultural heritage. Armenia has served as a member of several UN bodies, including the UN Human Rights Council (2020–2022), and has contributed to international discussions on conflict prevention, regional cooperation, and humanitarian issues.
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Armenia in Geneva-based UN institutions and specialized organizations, including the Human Rights Council and other multilateral forums. The Mission plays a role in advancing Armenia’s positions on human rights, humanitarian affairs, international law, health, labour, and other areas addressed within the Geneva-based multilateral system. According to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Mission has been headed by H.E. Ms. Hasmik Tolmajian since 26 November 2024, when she presented her credentials as Permanent Representative.
