Opening on Sept. 1, 2022, the beautiful exhibition "Donatello - Inventor of the Renaissance" is the result of a collaboration between the Berlin State Museums, Gemaeldegalerie and Bode Museum, the Bargello Museums and PalazzoStrozzi Foundation in Florence, and the Victoria And Albert Museum in London.

For the first time, the paintings and sculptures housed in these museums are exhibited together, in a coherent itinerary that takes the visitor from the youthful years to the maturity and then old age of the great Florentine master.

The exhibition is of great significance as Donatello will  have his own exhibition in Germany for the first time, with some 90 works and numerous important works never exhibited together before, the result is a panorama that culminates in the realisation: the story of Donatello is at the same time a story of the Renaissance. The exhibition will first be shown under the title Donatello, il Rinascimento at the Musei del Bargello and the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence from 19 March to 31 July 2022. The show will be presented at the Gemäldegalerie from 2 September 2022 to 8 January 2023, before moving on to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. An unmissable event, as a deep sign of the cultural dialogue between Italy and Germany for art and beauty.

The Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Embassy worked on the sidelines of the exhibition by organising a number of meetings on different topics: "Donatello's Originality," "Piazza della Signoria: a Metaphor of Stone, Shapes and Figures," "Donatello and the Renaissance."

The exhibition is sponsored by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds and the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museumsverein.
