Algerian Diplomatic Mission to United Kingdom
The mission engages the diaspora to strengthen bonds and preserve national identity

From June 5 to 7, 2026, Sofiane Chaib, the Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad, conducted a three-day official working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This initiative, carried out under the directives of the Algerian presidency, was designed to engage with the diaspora and recognize their potential as a contributing force in the nation’s ongoing development process.
A significant highlight of the mission was the official inauguration of a multi-purpose hall at the Algerian Cultural Centre in London. Located within the premises of the Consulate General, this new facility was established in response to widespread requests from the community. The hall is intended to serve as a dedicated space for cultural events and activities, specifically designed to strengthen the social bonds between Algerian residents in the United Kingdom and their homeland.
The Secretary of State also traveled to Manchester to meet with civil society representatives, where the discussion focused heavily on preserving Algerian national identity. Participants highlighted their efforts to maintain community cohesion while living abroad. During this meeting, representatives also raised concerns regarding the challenges of geographical distance from the capital, which can complicate access to essential administrative services provided by the Embassy and Consulate General.
In addition to cultural outreach, the visit targeted the integration of professional expertise into the national project. Mr. Chaib met with highly qualified professionals in scientific and technological fields at the Algerian Embassy to discuss their role in "national construction". To facilitate this, the government announced the organization of a future forum to develop a roadmap for the diaspora, alongside the creation of a specialized administrative body to monitor projects proposed by professionals abroad.
The visit concluded after addressing a range of administrative, professional, and cultural priorities. By combining the opening of new cultural spaces with direct dialogue on identity and development, the mission sought to foster a more inclusive relationship between the Algerian state and its community in the United Kingdom.
