Minister of Finance of Ethiopia Mr. Ahmed Shide was invited for a reflection discussion at the launch of the African Economic Outlook 2019 at the AU Summit, Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia on February 8th, 2019.

The event is organized in the framework of a panel discussion by the African Development Bank, Macroeconomics Policy, Forecasting and Research Department and aims to raise awareness of issues concerned with the African economies. The selected theme for the 2019 report is “Regional integration for economic prosperity”. The objective of the event is to create a platform where various actors can share their opinions on actions which need to be taken to incentivize the country’s economic growth, the creation of quality jobs and the reduction of poverty.

The 2019 report invokes the willingness to result in a better understanding and making tangible of the processes that are currently hindering a sustainable African growth rate. Considering such obstacles, the event’s discussions look at the implementation of innovative practices which are essential to raise the competitiveness of the African continent and of the African countries.

The event will be addressed to a wide range of participants with a focus on high-level policymakers who are interested in exploring and discussing various economic issues which their current governments are dealing with. Beside the high profile of policy makers, the event aims also to offer a platform where different stakeholders could engage in a constructive policy dialogue. Accordingly, in the events concept note the event is explained as serving as an opportunity to explore a deeper partnership between the Macroeconomics Policy, Forecasting and Research Department of the African Development Bank and the Regional Members Countries.
