The International Africa Festival is the biggest event for African music and culture. It has existed since 1989 and it is the oldest festival for African music and culture in Europe. Over 7000 artists from Africa have performed in Würzburg so far.

Many wonderful and talented musicians will be seen at the festival this year. Among others, Anna & Saliou Cissokho from Senegal, Moh! Kouyaté from Guinea, Ndlovu Youth Choir from South Africa and Femi Kuti from Nigeria will perform. They will bring a mixture of funk, pop, reggae, jazz and other styles to Würzburg.

In addition to great music, Africa Festival has a lot more to offer. The bazaar has various musical instruments, books, CDs, jewelry, sculptures and other objects, as well as African delicacies. A panel discussion on the topic of Afro Germany positive will be held and a fashion show will showcase African fashion and accessories. A stage for traditional music will introduce visitors to West-African music and a photo exhibition with the topic of “vanishing rituals and ceremonies” will give a glimpse of the cultures and traditions that are changing or even vanishing. The festival also has activities for children.

After many years of organizing the successful festival, a trust foundation called Africa Festival Würzburg was established in October 2014. The purpose of the foundation is to support social, cultural and charitable projects and institutions in Africa, especially in the field of health care, capacity building, promotion of African artists and musicians and supporting African art.

Africa Festival 2019 will be held in Würzburg from 30th May to 2nd June 2019. Tickets are available on https://www.africafestival.org/en/tickets/.
