Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is facing the growing impacts of climate change. For years, conservationists at the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg have been researching ways to strengthen the park’s resilience. From drought-resistant trees to innovative irrigation systems, their efforts aim to preserve this historic landscape against rising temperatures and extreme weather.

In response to these growing concerns, Sanssouci Park is hosting an open-air exhibition to engage the public on climate change’s impact on heritage sites. Through interactive displays, visitors can learn about the park’s conservation efforts and explore how global climate shifts are threatening other world heritage locations. Guided tours offer insights into the historical significance of Sanssouci Park and the ongoing work to protect it.

The exhibition not only educates but also encourages individuals to take action. From reducing personal carbon footprints to supporting conservation projects, visitors are invited to participate in the global effort to combat climate change. Sanssouci Park stands as both a reminder of what’s at risk and a beacon of hope, showing how innovative solutions can help protect our natural and cultural treasures for future generations.

The exhibition, under the patronage of Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture, and the Media, runs until October 31, 2024.
