A Look Into the Forgotten Past

The young writer Raphaelle Red presents her novel “Adikou”

On February 12th, Franco-German author based in Berlin, Raphaelle Red, will present her debut novel, Adikou. The event will be mediated by Dominique Haensell, German author and translator.

Adikou is a road novel that focuses on the protagonist trying to trace her family roots. Her journey begins in Lomé, Togo - her father's homeland - continues along the African coast, and eventually leads her to the United States. The novel talks about the past, anger, guilt and the ongoing struggle to define one’s identity.

Raphaelle Red was born in France and raised in Germany. She pursued literature at the Université Paris VIII, and she is currently continuing her studies at the Berlin Freie Universitat on contemporary Afro-diasporic literature. Her writings have been published in English (gal-dem, The Funambulist), French (Jef Klak, L'Humanité) and German (Bella Triste, anthologies Resonanzen et Glückwunsch). 

The event will be hosted by the French Institute in Berlin in cooperation with the Frankreich Zentrum of Freie Universität Berlin.
