A German-Led Exhibition in Seoul for Holocaust Remembrance
International Collaboration Commemorates Memory Through the Art of Felix Nussbaum
February 16th, 2026From 27 January to 15 March 2026, the travelling exhibition “On the Move with Felix Nussbaum” is being presented at the National Museum of Korean Democracy in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This cultural initiative, organised by the Felix‑Nussbaum‑Gesellschaft in Germany with support from the German embassy in Seoul, forms a central part of the “Remembering for the Future” programme marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2026. The exhibition brings reproductions of significant works by the German‑Jewish painter Felix Nussbaum to a broad international audience, fostering dialogue about memory, history, and artistic expression.
The travelling exhibition “On the Move with Felix Nussbaum” marks an important step in extending the reach of Nussbaum’s work beyond Europe and into Asia. The exhibition showcases reproductions of key works that document the artist’s development and thematic engagement with identity, displacement, and the fragility of human existence. Through this presentation in Seoul, German cultural institutions reaffirm their ongoing efforts to support international remembrance culture and educational exchange.
Held within the framework of the “Remembering for the Future” commemoration, the exhibition stands alongside a presentation by the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre Yad Vashem, titled “Auschwitz – A Place on Earth: The Auschwitz Album.” This joint staging emphasises cooperation between German and international partners in advancing an understanding of the Holocaust’s global legacy. By situating Nussbaum’s art within this broader context of historical reflection, the exhibition in Seoul highlights the universal relevance of memory work and the importance of confronting past atrocities through artistic and educational means.
The involvement of German principal stakeholders — including the Felix‑Nussbaum Foundation and other sponsors — underscores Germany’s commitment to fostering cultural diplomacy and supporting projects that promote tolerance and reconciliation. Through this initiative, Germany contributes not only artistic heritage but also a message of solidarity with the international community in preserving historical memory. The exhibition’s presence in Seoul represents a meaningful engagement in intercultural dialogue, strengthening connections between Germany and South Korea through shared commitment to remembrance and education.
