From 12 to 22 February 2026, Berlin will host the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious cinematic events. The festival continues to bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, critics, and audiences from across the globe, offering a platform for both established auteurs and emerging talent.

The Berlinale screens hundreds of films at multiple venues across the city, including the Palast Kino, Cubix Cinema, and outdoor locations in central Berlin. The programme features international premieres, competitive selections, documentaries, short films, and special curated sections highlighting innovation and global perspectives in cinema.

A highlight of the festival is the Competition section, where films compete for the coveted Golden and Silver Bears. In 2026, the jury is expected to include renowned international directors, actors, and critics, continuing the festival’s tradition of recognising cinematic excellence. Other sections such as Panorama, Forum, and Generation provide space for films that explore social, cultural, and artistic issues, often introducing audiences to voices and stories from underrepresented regions.

The Berlinale is not only a platform for artistic exhibition but also a hub for cultural diplomacy. Films from different countries offer insights into social issues, political narratives, and cultural identities, fostering dialogue between nations. The festival regularly involves embassies and cultural institutions, which host events, networking sessions, and country-focused showcases, making it an intersection of cinema, policy, and international engagement.

In addition to screenings, the festival features workshops, panel discussions, masterclasses, and industry markets, enabling filmmakers and producers to collaborate and develop new projects. The European Film Market (EFM), running alongside the festival, is a major international industry forum where films are bought, sold, and distributed, strengthening Berlin’s position as a centre for global film commerce.

For visitors and Berliners alike, the Berlinale offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of global cinema, from artistic innovation to mainstream appeal. By combining film with cultural exchange, the festival underscores Berlin’s role as a city that celebrates creativity, openness, and international collaboration.

As the 76th edition approaches, anticipation is high for premieres, red-carpet moments, and the continuing celebration of cinema as both art and a bridge between cultures. The Berlinale remains a defining moment in Berlin’s cultural calendar, drawing attention from worldwide audiences and reinforcing the city’s identity as a hub of artistic and diplomatic engagement.
