On May 30th, 2025, the Casa Latinoamericana—the House of Latin American Cultures in Neukölln—hosted a festive celebration marking 26 years of cultural activism, community empowerment, and social support in Berlin. The event brought together artists, families, activists, and friends to honor the vibrant contributions of the Latin American diaspora to the city’s cultural fabric.

Organized by Haus der Kulturen Lateinamerikas e.V., the celebration offered an exciting program featuring live music, traditional dances, workshops, children’s activities, and a vibrant food fair showcasing flavors from across Latin America. The atmosphere was filled with rhythms from cumbia to salsa, and the air carried the scent of empanadas, arepas, and tamales prepared by local community members.

Speeches by members of the organization and long-time collaborators highlighted the Casa’s journey since its founding in 1999. They reflected on its essential role not only as a cultural hub but also as a center for legal advice, language courses, psychosocial assistance, and migrant support services. The slogan of the evening,

“La Casa es de tod@s” (“The House belongs to everyone”), resonated throughout, reaffirming its commitment to inclusion, solidarity, and intercultural dialogue.

The event also featured a photo exhibition chronicling 26 years of activism and community building, capturing key moments from protests, cultural festivals, and educational initiatives led by the Casa.

More than just a birthday party, the 26th anniversary of Casa Latinoamericana was a testament to the enduring power of grassroots organizations in strengthening cultural identity, fostering social cohesion, and amplifying migrant voices in Berlin.
