The Nordic Embassy, an alliance of 5 embassies of Nordic countries in Berlin (Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden) has hosted a screening of a documentary of Dheeraj Akolkar- “Wars do not End” regarding German soldiers children in Norway, which were born during the German occupation of Norway during the 2nd World War.

The film tells the story of 5 "German children", born of a Norwegian mother and a German began a lifelong struggle with the bullying, marginalization and social exclusion after the war has ended. It portrays how these children had to pay for the sins of their father, in some cases without even knowing that. They were excluded from the ordinary social life, come of them were locked up in mental illness centers without any precedent or excuse. This served as a basis for that children, almost a half century later, to sue the State of Norway and elevate the case up to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

This event, as well as the film, was backed up by the UNICEF Foundation and organizations such as “Born of War” whose goal is to raise the awareness and support for the children who are currently going through a war during their childhood. Thus, unfortunately, we are currently witnessing one of the biggest crises of children born and raised during the war, and whose rights should be attended and protected.
