Khemaies Jhinaoui
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on January 6th, 2016. He was confirmed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the National Unity Government. Before his appointment, Mr. Jhinaoui was Diplomatic and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the President of the Republic from January 2015 to January 2016. He also held the position of Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from July 2011 to April 2012.
In March 2013, Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui headed the Diplomatic Institute for Training and Studies, and previously held the positions of General Director for Political and Economic Corporation with Europe and the European Union from 2006 to 2007, Director and Chief of staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2006, and Special Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of policy planning from 1996 to 1998.
Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to the Russian Federation, jointly accredited to the Ukraine and former Republics of the Soviet Union, from December 2007 to June 2011. Prior to this appointment he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to the Court of Saint James (United Kingdom) jointly accredited to the Republic of Ireland from March 1999 to October 2004. In the framework of the Middle East peace process, and at the request of the Palestinian Party, he headed the Tunisian interests Office in Tel-Aviv from May 1996 to July 1997.
Among his assignments abroad, Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui served as Counsellor at the Embassies of the Republic of Tunisia in Seoul (1991-1994), Moscow (1987-1988), and New Delhi (1982-1986).
Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui jointed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979. He holds Master’s Degree in Public Law as well as a post-Graduate Degree for Doctorate in political sciences and international relations. He is Barrister-at-law, and he graduated from the National Defense College (1997). He headed many Tunisian delegations to bilateral and multilateral meetings, and lectured in various academic Institutions in Tunis, London and Moscow.
