Timbuktu is back! Is an art project that shows off an ambiguous, contemporary African culture. It portrays another form of expression by supporting political freedom and civic maturation.

African Sahel is a complex region where religion, political terrorism, and the arts play major a role. In this region, a whole generation of artists take on themes like freedom of speech, human rights, the fight against fundamentalism, and support of cultural peace. Political corruption and Islamic movements are often seen in choreographies and theatre plays. The art is a form of political change and development.

Timbuktu is back! Is an art project for artistic encounters that focus on the exchange of cultures. The festival is also a platform for artists connection between creativity and social engagement, as well as identity building, social development, and most importantly peacekeeping. The project is lead by Kulturbrauerei e.V. in cooperation with HAU Hebbel am Ufer, the Senate Department for Culture and Europe of Berlin and the Institut Francais, Embassy of France in Berlin, the French Ministry for Culture and the Embassy of Burkina Faso.
