On July 14, 2019, the Embassy of France in Berlin hosted the event on the occasion of the National Day of France. The Embassy invited German friends and partners for a celebration.

The National Day of France, commonly called “la fête nationale” or “le 14 juillet” in France, is celebrated annually on July 14. This day has a dual significance and commemorates both the Storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, and the unity of the French people at the Fête de la Fédération on July 14, 1790. The celebrations, involving parades, fireworks, and concerts, are held throughout France.

The largest military parade takes place on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on July 14. On the Place de la Concorde, the French armed forces salute the President of the Republic, the French officials, diplomats and overseas leaders. The key EU figures like German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Theresa May joined French President Emmanuel Macron for the National Day celebrations in Paris.

On July 14, 2019, the Embassy of France in Berlin hosted the event to celebrate the National Day. The Ambassador Anne-Marie Descôtes welcomed the President of the Berlin House of Representatives, Ralf Wieland, as a guest of honor as well as Regional Councilor of the Occitània region Michèle Garrigue. This year Occitania is an honorary region hosting the national holiday celebrations. In autumn, the region will become the center of the German-French Festival Weeks #OkzitanienDeutschland with various events on the topics of economy, culture, and language.
