On May 24, 2019 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz (Theater am Potsdamer Platz, Marlene-Dietrich –Platz 1, 10785 Berlin), the Sverdlovsk State Academic Theater of Musical Comedy from Yekaterinburg, Russia, will present the theater blockbuster play “The Musical Chronicles of the Russian Empire of Catherine the Great.

The theatrical spectacle amazes with its imperial scale, the beauty of its costumes, the grandeur of the scenery and the depth of its understanding of the dramatic material. The idea of the play is to create a modern “artistic myth” about one of the brightest periods of the Russian Empire through a variety of styles: opera, romance, jazz, pop, folk, rap, solemn hymns, sparkling folk dances.

Catherine’s reign was a very significant period in Russian history, both in terms of politics and in the field of culture. The epoch of Catherine the Great is considered the “golden age” of the Russian Empire, marked by an unprecedented cultural take-off, the flourishing of philosophical and educational thought, the rise of the arts, education and spiritual values.
