Last week, from the 9th to the 13th March 2016, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show took place at the Berlin Messe.

At the ITB Berlin, more than 180,000 visitors coming from all over the world could experience the whole world of travel just walking around in one location: visitors could emerge into different countries, cities and regions, tour operators, hotels and travel technology, and many other service providers, from over 180 countries as they presented their products and services.

The first three days were dedicated to BtoB meetings, whereas during the weekend the ITB Trade Fair was opened to all private visitors.

ITB Berlin works as a global marketplace, networking and meeting place, where experts and interested visitors can exchange knowledge, book new travels, find a career in the tourism sector – both for visitors and exhibitors, the trade fair can represent a tour around the whole world in only a few hours. Moreover it offers the opportunity to receive a lot of information about important topics and the latest trends in tourism.

The core slogan of the ITB Berlin was “Experience & Experts”: as a matter of fact, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show promised every participant an enriching experience, which included meeting people from all over the world, having personal interactions with international professionals, seeing amazing landscapes you have never seen, admiring cultural dance and music shows from different cultures (Dominican Republic, Kenya, Taiwan, New Zealand and many others) with their typical costumes and sometimes, even trying their food (some regions of Italy).

In addition to showing the world’s most beautiful destinations, in every hall there were new cultural discoveries, exciting activities and adventures for young and old. In India they offered henna-tattoos, in China and Jordan they could write your name with the Chinese alphabet. In Taiwan one could take a photo with their original costumes and for children in Sweden there was a nice performance by Pippi Longstocking.

This shows that ITB is the perfect place not only for business men who want to obtain interesting contacts for their jobs, but also for the general public, who can have the chance to learn about foreign cultures, to be involved in their traditions, and to get inspiration and information for their next trip around the world.

The team of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, together with the participants of the Berlin Economic Forum 2016 last Sunday visited the ITB Berlin to see the stands and make a one-day trip all around the world.
