The Ambassador

Amb. Lee Chong Hock

Mr Lee Chong Hock is Singapore's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and last held the appointment of Director-General of the Europe Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since joining the Singapore Foreign Service in 2003, Mr Lee has served in various capacities on issues related to Americas and Southeast Asia. His first posting was as First Secretary (Political) at the Singapore Embassy in Berlin from 2005 to 2007. He was then seconded to the Public Service Division, Prime Minister's Office as Senior Assistant Director (Development), where he worked on public service delivery issues. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister-Counsellor at the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from 2012 to 2016. He was Director-General for Consular from September 2016 to February 2020 and was concurrently appointed Director-General for Europe in November 2019.

Mr Lee graduated with a Master of Engineering from the Technical University of Munich in 2001. He also obtained a Master of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University, United States of America, in 2012.

Mr Lee was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2020.

Married to Ms Sim Sher Ling Sharen, and they have four children.

The Embassy of Singapore in Germany was established in April 1973 in Bonn and moved its premises to Berlin on the 10th of August 1999. On the 15th of September 2011, the embassy moved to its present location at Voßstraße 17, near Potsdamer Platz.

Singapore and Germany have close relations on a bilateral and multilateral level. Singapore’s significant role in the regional organization ASEAN, its stability and its regional significance make it an important partner in Asia for Germany. The good relations between the two countries were enhanced by frequent mutual visits of high-level officials such as the visit the Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong payed to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015.
