Balzan Prize Winners Discuss Research

Seminar evening will cover the topics of music and performing arts

News from Berlin. The Italian Institute of Culture will be hosting the first official Balzan cultural event in collaboration with the International Balzan Foundation Prize and the Swiss Embassy in Germany. The event, titled ‘The Bigger World: universal and trans-cultural projects of music and theatre research’ is a seminar with a series of conversations with previous Balzan Prize winners.

The International Balzan Foundation promotes culture, the sciences and humanitarian initiatives of peace across the world. The foundation awards prizes in the fields of the humanities and natural sciences each year. Scientific and cultural institutions around the world are invited to submit proposals for the nomination of the winners. The winners are awarded prize money, of which half should be used for research, usually with participation of young researchers.

The conversations will cover a number of areas such as music and the performing arts; the subject of studies of the three Balzan Prize winner. The Balzan prize winners that will be taking part in the seminar are Manfred Brauneck (2010, theatre history), Ludwig Finscher (2006, music history) and Reinhard Strohm (2012, musicology).

The event takes place in the auditorium in the Indian Embassy, located at 17, Tiergarten Straße, 10785. There are 200 tickets for the evening, which begins at 18:00, and entrance is only guaranteed with a valid identity card or passport.
