Sustainability is an important issue for Beiersdorf and has its resonance already from the establishment of the company in the end of the 19th century. The current strategy/program “We Care” in 2017 seems to be a success and has now been prolonged into goals that Beiersdorf committed to fulfil by the year 2025.

Beiersdorf’s name is most known according to their global brands name such as NIVEA, Eucerin, La Prairie and the Hansaplast. The company is 130 years old, is based in Hamburg, is iconic on both mass market and the premium market of the cosmetics, employs more than 17,000 people and is available in more than 200 countries all over the world.

Since the establishment of the company, sustainability has played a major role and for the company is based on the balance of the importance of environmental protection, social responsibility and economic success. Beiersdorf’s commitment to sustainability is clearly expressed in the strategy “We Care,” which focuses on three main areas: products, people and planet.

The product portion’s focus implies questions with regards to the responsible sourcing, raw materials and packaging. The planet focus emphasizes the problems connected with the use of energy and water, but also the policy of reducing the overall amount of waste. In people’s focus, the most resonant one of the three, are the issues of general social responsibility and employee health and safety.

Following the “We Care” strategy/program, Beiersdorf announced the main achievements and the commitments for the years 2020/2025 in accordance with their previous efforts. Such commitments include the goal to reduce CO2 emissions per product by 70% in comparison to the year 2014 and use only 100% renewable energy sources.

Beiersdorf also helps disadvantaged families by improving their living conditions and provides additional help for the individuals in the family in order to achieve access to education. Since 2013 their help has reached almost 850,000 people. However, by 2020, Beiersdorf plans to help at least one million families in total.
