South African Ambassador Highlights Tourism in Promoting Cultural Diplomacy

The Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in Germany, Phumelele Stone Sizani, welcomed many special guests to the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin

In the framework of the ITB, an official meeting occurred on 5 March 2019 and brought together many revered invitees, such as Siza Ntshona, Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, Ian Utermohlen, Regional General Manager of SAT, David Frost, Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association and board member of SAT, Bradley Brouwer, Head Global Trade at South African Tourism and Ms Silvia Braun, Central Europe Marketing Manager, as well as 80 South African exhibitors in the presence of Advocate MA Cassimjee, Minister Plenipotentiary, George Monyemangene, Consul General at the South African Consulate General, and Lehlogonolo Sibisi, Vice Consul Political. Siza Ntshona revealed that South African at present had 10.5 million people arriving in their country, with 343,229 coming from Germany and they hoped to double these figures until 2030.

This meeting was utilized by the Ambassador to emphasize that tourism is one of the key aspects of the cultural link between Germany and South Africa, as one of the key aspects of the country’s current Nine-Point Plan supported approximately 1.5 million jobs directly and indirectly in South Africa.

At the ITB, the South Africa Media and Trade Roundtable hosted by South African Tourism, presented the successes and challenges for tourism in South Africa were deliberated with prominent delegates of the tourism industry. Many guests joined the discussion and it was moderated by Kai Böcking, a television presenter on German television.
