Sidiki Kaba
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Born August 21, 1950 Sidiki Kaba was educated in his hometown of Tambacounda, before continuing his high school education, like most of the young people of this country at the time, at Van Vollennoven High School, now Lycée Lamine Guèye in Dakar, where he graduated in 1972.
Sidiki Kaba began university studies in Abidjan and Dakar. He obtained at these two universities degrees in Law, Philosophy and Modern Letters, and further a master´s degree in Business Law. At the same time as he pursues his higher education, he teaches French at the Lycée Aké Loba in Abidjan from 1975 to 1978. From 1985 to 2000, he sits on the Council of the Order.
Mr. Sidiki Kaba devoted himself, very early, to the defence and the illustration of human rights both in Senegal and on the African continent in general. In 1981, he joined the Senegalese section of Amnesty International before joining the National Organization for the Defense of Human Rights (ONDH). He first assumes the vice-presidency from 1987 to 1995 and then the presidency until 2000.
He is a founding member and leader of several African NGOs:
- the Union des avocats in 1982,
- the Inter-African Union of Human Rights (UIDH) in 1992,
- the African Center for Human Rights Studies and Democracy (ACDHRS) in 1995,
- the African Center for Conflict Prevention (CAPREC) in 1995 ...
He has distinguished himself in defending the freedom of the press, women's rights, political rights, the fight against impunity, the death penalty.
