On 10th July 2019, Minister Plenipotentiary Cassimjee attended a panel discussion concerning South Africa’s elections as well as President Cyril Ramaphosa’ s new government.

The meeting, organised by Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) along with Hans-Seidel-Stiftung, foresaw the analysis of the panellists Sello Hatang (Chief Executive, Nelson Mandela Foundation), Panyaza Lesufi (Minister of Education and Deputy Party Chairman of the ANC in Gauteng), Dr Martin Schäfer (Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini) and Dr Melanie Müller (SWP - Foundation for Science and Politics).

Such a meeting provided a stage for a fruitful exchange of visions and ideas on President Ramaphosa’s leadership so far; the speakers focused on the score that the ANC (African National Congress) obtained at the national election, which was below 60% for the first time since South Africa’s first free vote in 1994.
