Metro Group aims to assist and to take action during the refugee crisis. Thanks to an allocated fund of one million euros, Metro Group employees would be able to apply for money in order to finance a local project supporting refugees.

The German retail company decided to encourage its employees to support local community projects, first and foremost ones aiming to tackle the current refugee crisis. Each employee shall apply for a part of a one-million-euro fund to support all sorts of concrete aid projects, from a language training to a multi-cultural sports programme. The most important point is that it would be a programme aiming to help social integration between local people and refugees.

In order to be a successful application, the employee must be actively involved in the project for which he/she seeks the money for and he/she must work in a country deeply affected by the refugee situation. For example; Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

In fact, since Metro Group is an international trading and retailing company whose headquarters are in Germany, its values are very diverse. For this reason, the multinational company feels personally involved as well as obliged to provide solutions to this ongoing crisis. In fact, in addition to this huge project, several employees have already taken action providing basic necessities, for instance donating food, clothing and equipment to refugees.
